Using a Mailing List Company
A mailing list company compiles information about consumers and/or businesses and sells this information to businesses or organizations looking to target potential customers or clients with its products or services. In most cases, these lists can be customized to fit an individual business’ needs so that it can narrow its target audience to a specific niche. In most cases, the client never sees the actual list, so the third party service technically owns the list.
These lists can be used for direct sales, email blasts or other such means the business or organization feels best fits its goals. Sometimes a mailing list company will not only compile the list for a client but it may also help with its marketing campaign. The service may help a business identify its desired base and help it compile the list with its own research techniques. For example, if the business is looking for specialty consumers, it may choose from areas such as boat owners, college students, high school students, magazine subscribers, military veterans, motorcycle owners, parents of newborns or soon to be parents, RV owners or teachers. Once this has been determined, it may choose what other demographic factors it would like this base to have.
Of course, for the business or organization on a budget, saturation or occupant lists may be the most inexpensive option. The drawback of this option is that it is very impersonal and may target consumers based on geographic location rather than a specialty instance. For example, a resident may receive a flyer for a back to school sale but have no children living in the household. Other times, a saturation campaign can be quite effective, especially where there are lots of different products or services available. A new food service company may bring in customers it had not previously considered with a saturation campaign.
Whatever the company chooses, it needs to find a service that will work with it to maximize its potential revenue and keep within its allocated budget. A viable list can produce a good return on investment if done properly and help a business keep old and gain new customers.
